The
challenges of community mental health and development in the harsh
environment and challenging isolation of many parts of the vast land area of Australia are a
topic of particular interest to many organisations. BasicNeeds is working with General Practice Network NT (GPNNT) to help develop its services to
Aboriginal communities in the Top End of the Northern Territory. The service model of GPNNT is
progressive in employing local Aboriginal people as workers in remote
communities to provide direct support for people affected by mental health
problems.
In Australia, we are interested to hear from organisations that have common ground and interests. BasicNeeds is keen to work with others in building knowledge, awareness and capacity for improved community mental health services and to locate mental health within a development framework.
