Gift Aid

Make your gift go further, for free!

Gift Aid allows us to reclaim the tax you have already paid on your donation from the Inland Revenue. This means that if you pay the basic rate of income tax, we can claim an extra 28p on every pound of your donation. So, if you make a donation of £10, with Gift Aid we could turn it into a donation of £12.80! This extra money can really make a difference to our work.

This is completely free to you. All you have to do is tell us that you have paid income tax (e.g. on earnings or a pension) or capital gains tax (e.g. paid on the sale of a second home or shares) at least equal to the amount we’ll reclaim on your donation and we’ll do the rest.

What’s more, you can back date your declaration to cover gifts you have previously made, and one declaration will cover all gifts that you make in the future.

Fill it out, post it to us, and we'll do the rest.

If you pay the higher rate of income tax you can benefit even further by claiming the extra allowance when you fill in your next tax return. So, a gift of £100 will only cost you £77 (by you reclaiming the extra 18% of the gross donation – what BasicNeeds gets – on your tax return) but with Gift Aid, BasicNeeds will receive £128!

Since April 2004, you can also elect on your tax return to repay the additional tax benefit you receive to us, helping us even further!

So, next time you make a donation to BasicNeeds, please tell us it’s a Gift Aid donation. Every penny counts.

BasicNeeds uses money that it receives from Gift Aid for general funds, such as essential administration. This means that we can spend more of your donation on helping mentally ill people. If you want us to restrict the Gift Aid claimed on your donation, please contact us on 01926 330101.
