Payroll Giving

Did you know that payroll giving is the most tax efficient way you can give, as well as one of the easiest? This means that without hassle or stress you can make your regular gift to BasicNeeds be worth the most it can possibly be. Every penny counts in our battle to end the suffering of mentally ill people.

We are not going to work miracles overnight. Our work to bring hope to mentally ill people will take time. Your continued support every payday will allow us to tackle the increasing demand for our services and let us plan for a successful future.

How does it work?

Your donation is taken directly from your pre-tax gross pay every month. This means that the tax that would have been claimed by the Inland Revenue on your income is given straight to us. If you pay the basic rate of tax, this means that your gift costs you only 78p for every pound you donate! If you pay the higher rate of tax, your gift will only cost you 60p for every pound you donate!

For example, if you donate £5 every payday and pay the basic rate of tax, this donation will only cost you £3.90. If you donate £5 every payday and pay the higher rate of tax, this donation will only cost you £3.00. BasicNeeds gets £5 from each of these donations.

Because it costs you less to give, why not give more? If you give more, then in effect BasicNeeds gets the benefit of the tax-efficient savings, and you pay the amount of your intended donation.

So, if wanted to make a donation of £5 a month, which would actually cost you £5 a month, you would need to donate £6.41 at the basic rate of tax, or £8.33 at the higher rate. This means that it would cost you £5 to donate, but BasicNeeds would receive increased donations and the benefit of the tax-efficient savings.

How do I donate through my payroll?

Firstly, ask if your company runs a payroll scheme. If they do, ask your payroll department to donate an amount of your pay to BasicNeeds. Some organisations run donation matching schemes where they will match your donation to various amounts. Ask if your company offers these incentives too.

If you have any questions about increasing the value of your donation to BasicNeeds or about payroll giving in general, please ring Jane Cox on 01926 330101 or email Jane.Cox@basicneeds.org

If your company does not already run a payroll scheme, we will happily contact them to explain the benefits of running a payroll giving scheme and how to set it up. Please contact Jane Cox on 01926 330101 with the contact details of a relevant person in your organisation (with their permission) and we will contact them to discuss such a scheme.
