BasicNeeds Ghana has been selected by the GlobalGiving Foundation to participate in its Open Challenge, a fundraising opportunity for nonprofit organizations working around the world on social change. In order to succeed in GlobalGiving's Open Challenge, BasicNeeds Ghana must raise $4,000 from at least 50 donors by December 31, 2011. If the Ghana program meets this threshold, it will be given a permanent spot on GlobalGiving's website, and benefit from corporate relationships, exposure to a new donor network, and access to dozens of online fundraising tools.

Your donation will help children like Fadila Nashiri, a six year old girl in northern Ghana who BasicNeeds has already supported. Fadila has suffered from untreated epilepsy and related medical and social problems since infancy. To no avail, her parents have depleted their resources to pay hospital bills and traditional healer fees in their search for effective treatment. When they discovered BasicNeeds, Fadila was properly diagnosed with epilepsy and is now taking seizure medication, going to school in a supportive environment, and gaining acceptance from her peers. Once ridiculed, alienated, and unable to attend school, Fadila now feels happy and loved. She is getting an education and has hope for an independent life in the future.
