A huge step forward for BNChina – Training of Trainers, Shunping (11th – 14th August, 2012)
BasicNeeds China observed a successful month of August as they organised the Training of Trainers (ToTs) programme at Shunping, Hebei Province from the 11th to the 14th of August. This event marks a huge step forward for BNChina. The 4 day programme was filled with talks, discussions, group activities and role plays, and the participants were lively and attentive.
The training commenced with an opening ceremony, followed by introducing the BN Model, introductions and discussions. The day's sessions were led by Ms. Song Qinghua, an inspirational trainer and facilitator. Day 2 of the programme was led by Dr. Wu from CAAE who spoke about epilepsy and its follow up treatment. Dr. Sun from Peking University and her colleague Dr. Zhou undertook sessions on mental illness, depression and schizophrenia on the following day. On the last day, Dr. Sun also dealt with issues on dementia, children and mental health. The day culminated with the reflection on learning which was conducted by Erla Magnusdottir and Xing Yingying. According to Erla, Representative of BNChina, the training marked an important transition from planning to action. The week according to her proved to be an excellent opportunity to engage with the doctors from Shunping and various other stakeholders. 35 doctors have now started their exciting journey in being specialists in mental illness and epilepsy. They will now be involved in training lower level doctors and in the process 390 village doctors will also be talking about epilepsy and mental illness!
