All of the mentally ill people and their carers, or sometimes even the whole community, are gathered together into one space. The person leading the group, called the ‘animator’, explains about the purpose of the meeting and a little about BasicNeeds. They also asks the groups permission to record the proceedings in a ‘process document’ and to take photographs.
